Final Blog Post - Letter to Asher

Dear Asher,
Asher, I am Jonas and I am writing this letter for you to tell you that I am going to leave this community for some reasons. After becoming a Receiver, I learned a lot of things about this community from the memories, by the Giver. I learned that as a Receiver, it is really hard to endure the painful memories and that the memories can contain really strong feelings. I would like to leave this community, live in peace in the place, 'Elsewhere'. Although I am not fully sure about the place, I would like to give it a try because at least I can get away from the community. I want to get away from all the rules in the community. I am planning to leave the community tonight.

The reasons why I am leaving the community, might be unable to be understood because you would not be able to know what I am talking about. First, I really want to get away from all the rules of the community. I don't really care about the rules because I will have to disobey all the rules tonight. When I get to the 'Elsewhere', I will be able to live peacefully, away from the strict rules.
That is not the only reason. Also, I have been really wanting to explore out of the community. I really wanted to get to the 'Elsewhere'. I don't want my life to be stayed in this community because that means that I will have to obey all those rules until I will get released.

Asher, don't worry because I will keep sending you letters if I have time but when the letter is not coming, think that there is no such place as 'Elsewhere' and I am still exploring the outside of the community looking for the place for me to live peacefully.

The Giver Blog Post 2

When Jonas learns about colors, he claims "it isn't fair that nothing has color". Why does he say this?

I think that Jonas learned about colors and he thought it was unfair that nothing has color, for some reasons. I am thinking that he was saying unfair because it is not fun without colors. Also, there is no difference between things exept for sizes. And because of these reasons, I also think that it is really unfair for things to be seen as black or white exept for Jonas and the Giver.

First, if everything is seen without any color, there would be no meaning of it and people would feel nothing with it. Every color has a meaning. For example, color red is for passionate love, violence and warfare. But without colors, people would feel nothing whether the thing has a meaning of love or violence or warfare. And because Jonas now knows the function of colors, Jonas would feel that it is really unfair that nothing has color.

Also, when nothing has color, there would be no difference between things. In the world, there are variety of clothes that have variety of colors in it. And people might buy clothes that has his/her favorite color in it or because the clothes has color that fit for him/her. So without colors, people will not be able to notice the difference everyday. As Jonas perceived this too, he felt really unfair for the things to not have colors.

I think that there can be a lot more reasons why Jonas felt it unfair that nothing had color. Not even him, everyone would feel unfair about everything without color. And in my opinion, these two reasons are the major reasons why I think Jonas said "it isn't fair that nothing has color".

The Giver Blog Post 1

1. Would you want your future to be decided by others ? Why or Why not?

In my opinion, I don't want my future do be decided by others. There are a lot of reasons why I don't want my future to be decided by others. All people have thier own talent, dream and right to decide thier own future and I think that is really important to single person. And here are my evidences.

First, I think that every person has thier own talent. And if they apply thier talent well, they even can be the number one in the world. But, in this book, the Chief Elder just randomly choose one job and when there is a ceremony of Twelve, where the children who are at age of 12 get a job. This, is really a miserable thing because if someone find what his own talent, they can be really good at it. But when the job is just determind by someone esle, that someone might be ruining person's life just by randomly giving a person a job.

Also, I believe that everyone has thier own dream. Even though they are not good at it, if they try and work hard enough to be good at it, then they can be good at it. And because the Chief Elder just chooses any job for a person, and it is also ruining the person's life. A dream is really a strong thing because it sometimes makes you to try harder and push you harder. And you will probably be able to achieve what you your dream was.

Last, everybody has a right to choose thier own job. Just because the community is different and because of the Elders, people's job can't be chosen by another person. They don't have a right to choose someone's job just randomly unless the rule is made in the community. And I think they should change the rules. (Even though it is not possible as it is already a written book)

I think these are the reasons why I don't want my future or my job to be chosen or determind by someone else. In a short form, I would say that all people have thier own talents, dreams and rights for thier own future and lives.
