November 26 -

Eboo Patel is an American Muslim and he lectures people in the world about the religion. And he was also a America’s Best Leaders of 2009 and he is the leader  founder and Executive Director of Interfaith Youth Core. He tells his past time story during the lecture about religion. He talks about the religion violence, how people have to be made fun of because of the religion or have to be differed from because they had different religion. He told everyone about his story when he was at the university with his friends. When he went into the gym to play basketball, there were three games going on. There was a black game, white game and Asian game. And in order to play in the white game, Patel had to give up his language and even his food. Eboo Patel then realized that why people would be so obsessed about the diversity, the gender, the race, the color and so on. But when he asked his dad about it, he learned that the religion was also being differed, but the it was not as publicly announced more than others. I think that he has a similar idea of connection with Aung San Suu Kyi. When she was house arrested for 15 years, she had to give up a lot of things, such as herself, the people, and the goal she has been looking forward to. As well as her, Patel also had to give in his language, so he couldn't even speak Hindi even though he was Indian, he couldn't eat his hometown food, Indian food. For own self, it is a lot easier to give up. But for other purposes, you have to give up something you desire or you have been planning to  reach, it is really hard and challenged to be decided. The religion should not be the one that has to be given up, and knowing that the religion can both be interconnection and the diversity, we should think it as the interconnecting path through the world and should not ignore it.

DOES EVERYTHING HAVE TO BE WATCHED?

In Burma, even the festivals the festivals are all ringed, and watched by millitary although the festival is to be enjoyed. It is because junta, the rulling millitary, had banned music in Burma. But other people who were really interested in and liked music, objected it and stood against them to challenge them. Thxo Soe, one of Burma's hop hop star, brought the traditional music by going to almost every library in London and decided to mix it with modern hip hop. He could have done that because he knew that hip hop will enable people to express their freedom and their ideas. Also, there is no any campaign in Burma this year, so that is the reason why Thxa Soe wish that hip hop can express that all. Once, when I was a little kid, I was also had to be ringed in the airport because there was a some kind of problem. And to be ringed, it felt like I was being prisoned and it was really uncomfortable. Also, it feels like I am being totally ignored by people. And as I have the experience of being ringed, I could think how awkward, weird and disappointing to be ringed during the festival. I think that Thxa Soe is a true hero in several ways. He tried his best to make Burma better, and believes in himself. Believes that his voice, and his hip hop can change Burma. He is a real hero for the people and Burma.

November 12 - FATMIRE FEKA : THE JOURNEY OF THE FORGIVENESS

Fatmire Feka is a peace advocate, who wants peace in the world. She is Kosovan, and she had to go through the war that happened in Kosova when she was 11 years old. It was World War 1, which left a big scar in Kosova. During the war, she lost her sister,  Sadate and Sami, his brother as her family had to split up, to be safe. For 10 years, she looked for her family. But she couldn't find any of them. Over 10 years, she decided to forgive the people who had done all the things to her if she knew who did that to her family. I think that Fatmire Feka tells us the idea of journey of the forgiveness. Even though she was hurt both physically and emotionally by the people, she chose to forgive them, which is a really hard decision to make. This has a similar connection with the story 'The Blokes'. Hashim is a Kosovan who is a newcomer in the story. John was his best friend but he had to destroy Hashim's artwork because he was threatened by the Blokes, who pulls the strings in the school, that they would tell every students in school that John's father killed a person. And that was how John had to destroy the artwork as he had no choice and he didn't want that to be happened. Even though Hashim's work was  destroyed, he didn't care about what happened and actually made that destroyed artwork  like his village, Kosovan village, which was destroyed and burnt with fire. Hashim forgave John because, he knew that John wouldn't do such thing to him and he trusted him, his friend.

October 1st - DOES EVERYONE HAS HEROIC FEELING INSIDE THEM?

Lyrics :
It's too late baby, there's no turning around
I've got my hands in my pocket and my head in a cloud
This is how I do
When I think about you
I never thought that you could break me apart
I keep a sinister smile and a hole in my heart
You want to get inside
Then you can get in line
But not this time

Cause you caught me off guard
Now I'm running and screaming
I feeling like a hero and you are my heroine

I won't try to philosophize
I'll just take a deep breath and I'll look in your eyes
This is how I feel
And its so surreal
I got a closet filled up to the brim
With the ghosts of my past and their skeletons
And I don't know why
You'd even try
But I won't lie

You caught me off guard
Now I'm running and screaming
I feel like a hero and you are my heroine
Do you know that your love is the sweetest sin?

And I feel a weakness coming on
Never felt so good to be so wrong
Had my heart on lock down
And then you turned me around
And I'm feeling like a newborn child
Every time I get a chance to see you smile
It's not complicated
I was so jaded

And you caught me off guard
Now I'm running and screaming

I feel like a hero and you are my heroine
Do you know that your love is the sweetest sin?
Do you know that your love is the sweetest sin?

This song is called Hero/Heroine by Boys like Girls. I chose this song because it is really interesting how the word 'hero' appears to be used in this song. 'I feel like a hero and you are my heroine' is the first part of the chorus. This shows that everyone wants to be a hero and has occasionally moments of feeling like a hero. But they only feel like it, they are not actually doing it. They have the glimpse of potentially being a hero but the only reason they can't be the real heroes is because of the fear they get. The real heroes are the ones who really try it bravely and succeeding it. Everyone wants to be a hero, but they don't really do what they feel like, but just to stay like an ordinary man. This also connects to my quote, which has the similar meaning. 'The ordinary gets involved, the hero acts'. My quote has a meaning that the ordinary is the one who causes and be involved in the problem, and the hero has to come up and help them solve and help the problem. As a result, I realized that a song that I listened to everyday, could have a deep meaning about hero if you really think about it carefully.
