As Mrs.Narsiman and Mr.Whiting worked about the Dominant Learning Profile with us, each of us got to know what type of learner we are and how we learn best in class. You had to check your dominant eyes, ears, hands, feet and even brain, if it is logic or gestalt. I learned that my learning profile is 'L', which is also thought to be the Einstein profile. Each type of learning profile has similar and different ways of learning.
I realized that if I sit somewhere I can focus, where it is quiet and can fidget freely without disturbing others nearby. Fidgeting and quiet place would help me when I am under stress, when getting new ideas, and trying to understand something. My learning profile is also known to be beneficial in art, music, movement and math. Rather than just sitting down, listening to the teacher and taking notes, it is better for me to learn in physically. Although I prefer to focus on the whole picture, not taking step by step, that is the best way for me. I learn best with these environment, which is hard to be provided during the class time. But I wish that it would happen sometimes and that would really help me a lot with learning new things.
I need to have a quiet time, (if possible, alone) a place where nobody would be disturbed with my fidgeting, as said above. And I really agree with the statement 'Needs quiet time alone, when integrating new ideas and under stress' and 'Needs to move while processing internally with minimal external sensory stimulus'. When I try to concentrate, I automatically bite my fingers or play with my pencil. It looks like I am not focused, but that is actually the way to prove that I am really concentrating. Also, whenever the class each gets a laptop and type, which makes annoying noise, it really bothers me. And when that happens, I try to go to a place where I can't hear the noise anymore and it helps me a lot.
I would like the teachers to know that when I'm under stress, I can't function my brain well, so they should understand me and let me be. When the class is too loud, I would like them to stop the noise immediately. When I fidget a lot during the class time, please do not stop me because that is my own way of focusing. And lastly, I would like them to understand how I can't see, hear, write or communicate easily when under stress.
Even though I had health during the 1st trimester and already have experienced what it is, I learned new things again. The result was the same, but the way I learned this time, was different than before. I think that learning my own learning profile is really interesting and helps you a lot with your learning. Now I know what I'm like when under stress or not under stress, I would like to try the excercises that are recommended such as Lazy 8's, thinking caps and others if it really works and should use them whenever I feel like stressed out.
